Towards a broader, deeper psychoanalytic self psychology.

Dr Ronald Redvers Lee

Saturday, 7 May 2011
9.30 am – 12.30 pm

The Australian Museum, College Street, Sydney

Drawing on the clinical experience and using clinical vignettes Ronald Lee will explore two areas of psychotherapeutic work:

1.            Subjective Truth in Psychotic States: Implications for Psychoanalytic Treatment
2.            Somatization: A Self Psychology Perspective.

Being a clinician and educator Ronald will engage with us to expand clinical understanding and theoretical formulations of these severe states which are encountered in therapeutic practice.

Ronald Redvers Lee was born in Melbourne, studied history at The University of Melbourne before going to the U.S. where he studied theology at Garrett Theological Seminary (M. Div.), psychology at Northwestern University (Ph. D.), and psychotherapy in a post-doctoral year at the Menninger Foundation.

He published Psychotherapy After Kohut (1991) - still selling - and Five Kohutian Postulates (2009), both of which came out of his teaching and practicing psychotherapy in Chicago for 29 years and his immersion in the psychoanalytic theory of Heinz Kohut. Just submitted for publication is a manuscript for secondary students: “Special Positive Experiences: From Youthfulness to WEACH” Under his company name Empathink, Ron still practices psychotherapy, supervises and teaches. Some of his articles may be obtained on the Empathink web site. He is the founding president of the newly formed Empathink Association of Psychoanalytic Self Psychology, an affiliate of the International Association. He lectures in the MPM program, Department of Psychiatry, University of Melbourne and supervises psychotherapy cases of Psychiatric Registrars at St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne.

Ron’s current project is a series of weekly teleconferencing presentations that take place on your computer in your home, called, “Advancing and broadening psychoanalytic self psychology.” They commenced in April.
